Providers registered with CQC must have regard to the Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections made under the Health and Social Care Act 2008, and CQC checks how infection risks are managed as part of safe care and treatment. Every member of staff who touches a patient, a resident, their food, their laundry or their environment is part of that system. This course is for care home, domiciliary care, supported living and healthcare staff, and for cleaners, caterers and laundry staff in those settings. It explains the different microorganisms and how bacteria are transmitted, the chain of infection and where it can be broken, standard precautions including hand hygiene and protective equipment, and cleaning and decontamination. It is video-led, takes about 60 minutes and is approved by CPD and IIRSM, with a certificate to download the moment you pass the final test. It suits induction and an annual refresher for the whole team.
